On Behalf of Fridley Police, Fire and Recreation, and Allina Medical, thank you for supporting
Safety Camp 2016!
This year's Safety Camp was held on June 21 & 22 for 120 3rd and 4th graders. We experienced a 2-day adventure of learning, experimenting, laughter and fun!
Thank you to the Police Officers, Firefighters, Paramedics and Recreation leaders who volunteered as camp counselors.
You are terrific role models for us all.
A Special Thank You to Liz Chevalier, Fridley Police. Liz introduced Safety Camp to Fridley in 1995 and has been organizing it for 22 years. Her commitment to community youth is unsurpassed. Through Safety Camp alone, she has mentored over 3000 kids in safety and connected them with strong role models. Liz will be retiring from Fridley Police in July and we wish to express our sincere gratitude for everything she has done for our community.
Fridley Safety Camp is a 2-day event, usually held mid-June, for those entering grades 3 or 4. Kids learn invaluable safety skills through special guests, games and experiences. Police Officers, Firefighters and other community leaders trade in their uniforms for t-shirts and volunteer to be camp counselors as they introduce kids to a variety of safety topics including fire, seat belts, animals, electrical, bicycle. first aid, water & swimming, weather, wildness, drugs & poisonous chemicals, and 9-1-1.
A graduation ceremony following the event is a highlight as the campers see their counselors, now in full uniform, honor their success with medals, let them climb through emergency response vehicles and celebrate the new skills they learned.
Watch for Details and Registration on Safety Camp 2017, coming in April!
