The City of Fridley's Housing and Redevelopment Authority has purchased a 1959 rambler, located at 831 Mississippi Street, for the Home Improvement Demonstration Program. This demonstration project will bring to life some of the home upgrades showcased in the HRA-developed home remodeling handbooks. View the Cape Cod and Rambler Planbook (13 MB)

After a thorough search and evaluation of qualifications, the HRA selected Lennox Builders of Mounds View to remodel the Mississippi Street home. Lennox Builders has extensive experience in remodeling ramblers, and they previously partnered with the City of Coon Rapids on a similar remodeling project.

Tim Van Auken, Counselor Realty, was chosen to serve in the unique role of realtor and design collaborator with Lennox Builders. Together they will work to maintain the rambler's character and enhance it with quality modern features. Mr. Van Auken has provided input to help balance the extent of the remodel's value with the desire of today's homeowners.

Unlike typical remodeling projects, this one will be open to the public. Let it inspire and encourage you to reinvest in your home! Information about the HRA's home improvement loan program and free remodeling advisor service will also be available at the home.

Open houses will be used to demonstrate how inexpensive various home improvements can be if savvy homeowners visit the reuse center, liquidators, and/or the internet to obtain materials. The upgrades to be showcased will provide a roadmap for Fridley's existing housing stock to be updated for years to come.

Take a look first-hand at the progress during a series of open houses.

Before:  The pre-remodel open house will be held on Sunday, April 11, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Midway:  At the mid-point of the remodel, there will be two more open houses held on Sunday, May 23, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Wednesday, May 26, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Completed Remodel:  After the remodel is complete there will be open houses on Saturday, July 17, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, July 18, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Wednesday, July 21, 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. More open houses added! Wednesdays in August, 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
