Hydrant Flushing Print E-mail

Twice a year, the City of Fridley flushes out its water mains through the fire hydrants. Spring hydrant flushing begins in April and is completed in early May. Fall hydrant flushing normally begins in October and is completed by November. The purpose of flushing the water lines is to clear the water mains of any accumulated minerals like iron or manganese to provide better quality water to the residents of Fridley and to verify that the hydrants are in good working order.

After flushing of the City’s mains is completed, we suggest that you flush your hot water heater, which can accumulate sediment over time.  Find instructions to flush your hot water heater here.  By following these steps, not only will the hot water tank be cleaned out, but also the heater will run more efficiently and help conserve energy.

If you have any questions in regard to hydrant flushing, please contact Public Works.
