All Planning Department functions revolve around meeting the development proposals of the Planning Commission and City Council, as well as interpreting and enforcing the zoning and subdivision codes. This department prepares and implements the Comprehensive Municipal Plan, which guides land use, zoning, sewer extension, transportation, and community facility improvements or anticipated changes. They also prepare special reports and studies of redevelopment and long-range plans.

The Planning Department oversees all land development within the City of Fridley. Staff prepares and implements the Comprehensive Municipal Plan which guides land use, zoning, sewer extension, transportation, and community facility improvements or anticipated changes. Staff prepares reports and makes recommendations to the Planning Commission and City Council for decisions regarding land development within the City. Staff is available to answer questions on past, current, and future development, zoning, building code changes, home occupations, business signage, and variances to the codes.
