Fridley squad car

The Police Department is located in the lower level of the Fridley Municipal Center at 6431 University Avenue NE in Fridley, Minnesota. Redesigned in 1989, the facility has offices, holding cells, a firing range, heated garages for squads and equipment, locker rooms and an emergency operations center.

The department provides around the clock police service with 40 sworn peace officers and 15 full- or part-time civilian staff. A Public Safety Director and two Captains, each in charge of a Division, administer the department. The Field Operations division consists of the uniformed patrol officers and non-sworn community service officers. The Technical Services division includes Information Services, Special Projects and Investigation.

Mission StatementOur mission is to promote a safe and desirable city by partnering with the community to preserve life, protect property, and defend rights. We will strive to enhance public trust through quality leadership, education and respect for all. We will enforce laws with impartiality, and we will provide all service with integrity and the highest degree of professional behavior.

Neighborhood Resource Officers

Fridley is divided into 10 districts consisting of 3 to 5 neighborhoods each (see Chart below). A Neighborhood Resource Officer (NRO) is assigned to work with the citizens of each district to solve problems or concerns that may surface in their neighborhood. The NRO has been trained in problem solving and is aware of the various resources available in the community. The Fridley Police Department believes that the greatest opportunity for success is working together with citizens, the schools, the business community and other organizations to solve problems. Citizens are encouraged to meet and get to know their NRO. It is important to develop a trusting working relationship prior to dealing with problems that may be identified in a neighborhood.

Child Safety Seats

Did you know it's estimated that 4 out of 5 car seats are installed incorrectly?

It is the law to have your child in a child safety seat until the age of four. In addition, a new law went into effect July 1, 2009 requiring a child who is BOTH under age 8 and shorter than four feet 9 inches to be fastened in a child safety seat that meets federal safety standards. It is recommended to keep a child in a booster seat based on their height rather than their age.

A booster seat raises the child's seated height which allows the belt system to comfortably and safely rest across their body. A properly installed car seat or restraint is your child's best defense against being seriously hurt in a crash or sudden stop.

Members of the Fridley Police and Fire Department have been nationally trained and certified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to inspect your child's car seat. They will give you installation tips, educate you on transporting older children, check your current seat(s) for factory recalls, and assist you with the proper installation of your car seat. Each seat inspection takes approximately 30 minutes.

The Anoka County SAFE Kids Coalition offers FREE car seat inspections at monthly clinics (10 per year) throughout Anoka County. Clinics are by appointment only. In addition, individual inspections can be scheduled with the Fridley Police or Fire Department staff who have the national certification.

To inquire about the next monthly clinic or to schedule an individual appointment, please contact the Fridley Police Crime Prevention/Youth Specialist or the Fire Department at 763-572-3613. For more information, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.
