Elementary School Activities

After-School Activities - Gr. K-4

The following classes are offered after school at Hayes Elementary School from 3:45 ‐ 5:15 p.m. to youth in grades K‐4 (unless noted otherwise﴿. Snacks are provided before class. Recreation leaders will meet participants in the cafeteria at dismissal time. Stevenson students will meet our Recreation leader at the bus loading area and will be transported to Hayes. For students not attending Hayes or Stevenson, drop‐off is at 4 p.m. at the Hayes cafeteria. Parent/caregiver pick‐up is in the Hayes cafeteria at 5:15 p.m.

Note: If your child needs to be transported from Stevenson Elementary to Hayes Elementary, please select the transportation option when registering. Transportation is NOT provided after class—all participants must be picked up at Hayes.

Family Open Gym

Bring the family and get the wiggles out with a variety of activities. This is a perfect time for parents/caregivers and children to have fun and play as the weather turns cold outside. Enjoy free play with a wide variety of recreational equipment including, balls, hoops, scooters, jump ropes, music and more!

No pre-registration required. (Requires at least one adult over the age of 18 and one child under the age of 18 to participate).

FEE
Drop‐in fee: $2 per child or $4 per family
5 visit Punch Card: $5 per child or $10 per family
(Family is defined as 1-2 adults and 2+ children)

Middle School Activities

Teen Pickleball Camp- Ages 10-16

Interested in trying a new sport? We invite teens to join one of the fastest growing sports in the country! Camp is designed to give you a sample of the sport while focusing on the fundamentals. We will cover rules and basic techniques to get you started. Camp will be held at Hayes Elementary Gym.

Pickleball Classes  Classes meet weekly for 4 sessions. Classes accommodate skill levels from Beginner to Advanced.  Pickleball Clinics Clinics meet for a 2 day weekend session. Clinics are intended to introduce brand new players to the game. Beginner skill level.	Beginner Class - Players who are new to the game of Pickleball and looking to develop their skills.  Pickleball for Beginners Intermediate Class - Know how to play the game. Indoor Pickleball Court Rentals Looking to play Pickleball this winter? Fridley Recreation will be offering indoor court rentals at the Hayes Elementary School Gym. Balls and paddles are available. $15/hour (1 hour minimum)	Reservations Reservations must be made at least one week in advance by calling Fridley Recreation at 763‐572‐3570. Play In Our Parks

Each month, the Rec team invites you to get outside and play in our parks with a curated, FREE, family-friendly event. 

Turkey Fun | Saturday, November 18, 2023 | 2-4 p.m. | Springbrook Nature Center
Sign up to play Turkey Bingo! Each player, including children, may sign up for ONE Bingo session only. All ages are welcome; we’ll have turkeys and food items to win generously donated by the Fridley Lions Club. Before or After your Bingo session, we invite you to stay and participate in Turkey themed games, crafts and an outdoor scavenger hunt. 

Skating, Sledding and S'mores | Friday, December 29, 2023 | 1-3 p.m. | Commons Park Warming House
Join us for an afternoon of fun at Commons Park Warming House as we celebrate the start of winter skating season! Use free skates on the ice rink, sled down the giant hill, and make a s’more over the fire. The warming house will be open for you to warm up, make a fun winter craft, and there will be music playing to keep the party festive (dancing is optional)!

Turkey Leg 5K

Be active at home, at your own pace and track your miles along the way to complete this fun 5K! Get the miles in however you prefer, whether that be walking or running - hitting the trails or inside on the treadmill.  Perhaps rollerblading is more your thing - we don’t care, we just want you up and moving!  At the completion of each activity, simply log your distances until you reach 3.1 miles. This event is open to all ages and abilities. All finishers will receive a custom designed long sleeve shirt after Thanksgiving. Register by November 23.  11/23 Turkey Leg 5K Registration

Ice Fishing

Intro to Ice Fishing | Monday, January 15, 2024 | 1-2 p.m., 2-3 p.m. | Moore Lake Park
Join us on the ice for some fishing fun as we get ready for Winterfest! Instructor and Fishing for All owner, Evan Griggs, will teach basic ice safety and ice fishing skills for the whole family. All equipment is provided. Dress for the weather. Registration required for this one‐hour session. Ages 8+ and Parent/guardian must be present. No fishing license required. Scholarships are available, call 763‐572‐3570.
