2021-01 Street Rehabilitation Project

Project Update 11 - November 4th, 2022

The Contractor has completed the majority of construction work in this area. Next week the Contractor will return to complete minor restoration and close out items. Please contact The City to discuss any items you find that may need to be corrected or resolved. Please emailed public notice for further information.

Project Update 10 - October 28th, 2022

The Contractor has completed the final pavement lift in your area. Starting next week October 31, the Contractor will be sawing and sealing control joints in the new streets. This work entails sawing the pavement and filling the cuts with a sealant. This application is similar to having control joints in concrete. The intent is to control where the road will expand and contract and minimizes wandering cracks in the new roadway. This is the last major task of construction. The Contractor will return to complete minor close out items. Please see the emailed public notice for further details.

Project Update 09 - October 21st, 2022

This week, the Contractor completed the installation of the first lift of asphalt pavement across all project streets and began preparation for the second and final lift. The Contractor is anticipated to begin paving the final pavement lift on Tuesday October 25. All construction activities are weather dependent and subject to change. Please see emailed public notice for further details.

Project Update 08  - October 14th, 2022

Next week, the contractor will continue paving the first lift of asphalt on Monday October 17th. Contractor will begin at 7:00 a.m. each day, weather permitting. We ask that you please stay off the new pavement while the paving operation is taking place. You will have access to your driveway at the end of the day. This allows for the asphalt to cure and will produce the best final product. Residents within the paving areas may park on West Moore Lake Drive or adjacent streets that were previously paved the day prior. Please see emailed public notice for further details.

Project Update 07 -  October 7th, 2022

Early next week the contractor will finalize grading efforts on gravel street sections in preparation to begin paving the first lift of asphalt on Wednesday October 12th with anticipation to be completed by Friday October 14th. Please see emailed public notice for further details.

Project Update 06 - September 30th, 2022

Starting Monday, October 3rd, the contractor will focus on grading efforts on the gravel street sections in preparation to paving the first lift of asphalt on the following week. Please see emailed public notice for further details.

Project Update 05 - September 23rd, 2022

The Contractor will begin street reclamation on Tuesday September 27th in the project streets. Street reclamation grinds the first 6”-8” of the existing roadway into a suitable aggregate base for the new pavement. The Contractor will immediately follow the street reclamation with grading to prepare the base and provide a drivable surface. As a reminder, we ask that no vehicles be parked on the streets during working hours from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. This gives the contractor room to work more efficiently. Please see emailed public notice for further details.

Project Update 04 - September 16, 2022

During the week of September 19th, the contractor will begin pouring concrete curb & gutter in the project area. The new concrete requires 7 days of undisturbed curing to strengthen and cure properly. We ask that during this time residents do not park adjacent to the new concrete. Please see emailed public notice for further details.

Project Update 03 - September 9, 2022

This week, the Contractor mobilized equipment and began preparation for curb & gutter removal in select locations. This work is anticipated to occur the week of September 12th. Driveway access will be maintained for all properties during the curb removal process, however, there may be times that vehicle access to driveways is temporarily impacted as the Contractor works in an area. Please see the emailed public notice for more information.

Project Update 02 - September 2, 2022

It is anticipated that North Valley Inc., the City’s Street Project Contractor, will begin moving onsite next week (Approximately Wednesday – September 7th).The contractor will begin mobilizing onsite, installing traffic and erosion controland begin removals of existing curb & gutter. More information in the official emailed public notice.

Project Update 01 - May 27, 2022

The City of Fridley awarded the Street Rehabilitation Project No. ST2021-01 to North Valley Inc. of Nowthen, MN. The bids came in a little higher than staff were projecting during the preliminary design and after calculating the special assessments with contractor’s costs the special assessments are estimated to be 10% higher than the amount projected previously. This is due to the increase in oil prices that occurred between October of 2021 and now. Staff is currently reviewing the project to see where costs might be reduced.

The street contractor has provided a preliminary construction schedule starting at the beginning of August. A more formal project schedule will be shared in July. Once the project starts residents can anticipate a weekly update during construction.

More information can be found in the official mailed public notice. Please note this is the only mailed notice for this project. All residents are encouraged to sign up for email updates by contacting web-StreetProjects@fridleymn.gov. Email updates will go out weekly during construction and this page will be updated frequently as well. Please contact Engineering at 763-572-3554 if a printed mailed copy of updates is needed and we will make arrangements.
