A message from Mayor Lund distributed on June 1, 2020 regarding recent events in the area.

Dear Fridley,

The City Council and I share the same grief and sadness communities across Minnesota, and the nation, are experiencing in the wake of the recent events in Minneapolis. A man’s life was lost by a tragic and avoidable event. The pain we are all feeling is very real and should never be forgotten.

I also want to assure you that our Fridley Police have always worked to protect and serve everyone in our community and will continue to do so honorably. The aftermath of last week’s events has added a heightened sense of concern and fear of violence in Fridley. Our police have done everything I would want them to do when it comes to answering calls, complaints and concerns that occurred over the weekend. I trust and support the leadership of Fridley Police and each officer in our department. They are kind-hearted, professional, compassionate members of our community and they will continue to serve us for the betterment of our safety and protection.

As elected officials, we have taken an oath to serve every person in Fridley. Whether you have lived in Fridley for 60 years or six months, each of you are an important member of our community and we care about you. We are friendly and vibrant because of our diverse residents and businesses in our city and I thank you all for sharing your cultures, traditions, and histories with us.

Sincerely,

Mayor Lund
