[ARCHIVED] CenterPoint Energy Announces Interim Rate Increase

Effective immediately, CenterPoint Energy will increase rates by approximately 5.65%. This interim rate increase took place beginning October 2, 2015, and will remain until permanent new rates are approved and implemented in the summer of 2016.

The last time CenterPoint Energy increased rates was in 2013. Since that time, they have made and continue to make significant investments to serve customers. These investments, such as the ongoing pipeline replacement programs, maintain the safety and reliability of the natural gas system and benefits customers and communities.

On August 3, 2015, CenterPoint Energy filed a request with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (MPUC) for an increase in natural gas rates of $54.1 million, or approximately 6.4% per year. On September 22, 2015, the MPUC accepted their filing and approved a temporary rate increase of $47.8 million, or about 5.65% more than current rates. This interim rate increase for CenterPoint Energy customers took effect October 2, and continues until the MPUC issues a final order and the company implements new rates in the summer of 2016.
