[ARCHIVED] Be Safe This Halloween!

NFPA Public Education

Did you know...? Decorations are the first thing to ignite in 900 reported home fires each year. 2 of every 5 of these fires were started by a candle! Keep all decorations away from open flames and other heat sources like light bulbs and heaters.

Be Halloween Safe!

*Check costumes! Stay away from long trailing fabric and make sure eye holes in masks are large enough to clearly see.
*Provide children with flashlights and/or glow sticks so they can be seen by passing cars.
*Dried flowers, cornstalks and crepe paper catch fire easily. Keep all decorations away from open flames and heat sources.
*Use a battery-powered candle or glow stick in jack-o-lanterns. If you must use candles, make sure pumpkins are far away from trick-o-treaters and anything that can burn.
*Remember to keep exists clear of decorations so nothing blocks escape routes.
*Make sure all smoke alarms in the home are working.
*Tell children to stay away from open flames including lit pumpkins. Be sure they know how to stop, drop and roll.
