Arrest made in Fridley murder case. A suspect has been identified. That suspect was actively pursued and taken into custody by officers from the Minneapolis Police Department. The suspect is in the custody of the Anoka County Jail.

From the office of Sheriff James Stuart, Anoka County Sheriff's Office:

The investigation of the murder of a 17-year-old male in the city of Fridley led to a suspect bring identified. The suspect is identified as 

Zakariya Hassan Ahmed, DOB: 10-24-1997

4242 46th Ave N, Robbinsdale, MN

The suspect has been arrested BUT HAS NOT YET BEEN CHARGED. The case is under review by the Anoka County Attorney's Office who will decide if/what charges are appropriate. The suspect's booking photo is available from the Anoka County Sheriff's Office website jail booking section. There will be no further information or details released until a formal complaint is issued and filed.


Press Release from 7/17/17:  On July 17, 2017 at 0112 hrs, Officers from the Fridley Police Department were dispatched to a call of a "male not breathing" on the side of the road in the 7600 block of Meadowmoor Drive NE. Upon the arrival of the Fridley Officers, they discovered a male who was determined to be deceased. The death is being investigated as a murder. 

The decedent is a 17-year-old male who lives in the city of Fridley. The manner of death indicates foul play. The identity of the victim will not be released now pending notification of relatives. 

This is still a very active investigation that is in its beginning stages. There is very little information that we will be releasing at this point, but there will be updates as events warrant. 

The case is under the investigation of the Fridley Police Department, the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office and the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.
