K-9 Officer Roddy and Jax responded to a burglary in progress on Saturday night in Columbia Heights. When one of the first officers on scene saw a suspect running from the business, that information was relayed to our K-9 unit. Officer Roddy and Jax tracked the suspect by scent for over 35 minutes in and out of neighborhoods, through alleys, and around homes, until Jax began to alert that the suspect was in the immediate area. Officers checked the area but initially didn’t locate the suspect. As Jax kept indicating that the suspect was still there, officers soon found that the suspect had climbed on to the roof a business in hopes of eluding capture. The suspect was contacted and soon taken into custody. This is just the most recent example of how well the city of Fridley and neighboring communities are served by our K-9 units. The southern end of our city and the northern end of Columbia Heights had suffered approximately 9 business burglaries in the past week. Investigation will reveal whether all those burglaries are related or not, but at this time we suspect they are. Thanks to Jax and his keen sense of smell, this suspect was located and arrested. Congratulations Officer Roddy and Jax on a job well done!
